New fitness studio opens this month

By Angela Prichard,

Fitness, dance and well-being at Masterlord from 17 May…

First a café, then a beauty therapist and a child-care nursery – and soon the all new Fitology Studio – make Masterlord the leading office village in East Anglia, with a unique range of facilities for everyone in our community.

What’s Fitology, we hear you ask?  Emma Atkinson, who’s worked in the fitness industry for more than 20 years, is opening a brand-new studio on May 17 (subject to government guidelines) at 9a Gamma Terrace. We can’t wait to try it out!

She’ll offer more than 30 fitness, dance and well-being classes seven days a week, with morning, lunchtime and evening slots – conveniently scheduled to fit around your work.

Bodysculpt, LBT (we’re talking legs, bums, tums here), pilates, aerobics, yoga, HIIT (high intensity interval training), warfare (combat class, ‘cos you never know), Zumba and clubbercise (dance and music fitness) plus much more.

Emma offers monthly membership or pay-as-you-go: choose what fits you.

You can find a schedule of classes on her Facebook page @clubberciseipswich and we’ll let you know when the new Fitology Studio website goes live.

In the meantime, you can contact Emma at emmaatkinson129@gmail.com

or call 07786 656208

‘Excercise is great for the body and mind, improves mobility, increases muscle strength, balance, co-ordination and core strength. It helps stress relief, recharges the body and creates a feel-good factor too. A group exercise class creates community and friendship: united, we’re part of a team!’
Emma Atkinson, Fitology Studio

‘We’re excited to welcome Fitology to our community. We know a lot of people will make use of the studio, right on their doorstep at Masterlord Office Village.”

The new normal?

By Angela Prichard,

First steps to a new normal
What a day!  The shops are open (anyone for a sale!), you can eat outside at a pub, cafe or restaurant, meet friends and family, go to the hairdresser or barber, visit a spa, gym or zoo (not necessarily in that order) take a staycation in self-catering accommodation, have your nails done…and the kids are back at school.  The first steps to a new normal are an exciting time, but relaxing the rules comes with risks.  And international travel is still a wait-and-see game.

For many businesses, the prospects are more encouraging but others are still desperate for more clarity about the future.

At Masterlord Office Village the signs are very positive, with more and more people returning to offices or moving into a new office after a long period working from home.

Kings Coffee House has reopened for takeaways and hopes to fully reopen next month.
Don’t forget their limited time special offer, with one free tea or coffee per person with each food purchase!

Try a delicious wrap or roll, a freshly-made salad box or a burger, with a slice of moist home-made cake to follow. Yum.

Save time and order in advance on 01473 237377 or email kingscoffeehouse@aol.com

Kings Coffee House is open 7.30am to 2.30pm weekdays.  Start your day with a freshly-made breakfast roll and choose from a huge range of coffees and teas.

Everyone needs a little TLC, so we’re excited to hear that beautician Samantha has reopened All About You on the second floor at Epsilon House.  In this haven of calm, enjoy a facial or massage!  Her beauty treatments include nails, eyelash extensions, waxing and much more.

Kings Coffee House reopens Monday, 12 April!  New owner, new look…

We’re all excited that the Masterlord café is reopening!  It’s takeaway only for now, but new owner James Harrington can’t wait to show off the newly redecorated Kings Coffee House and fully reopen in May.

Limited time special offer: one free tea or coffee per person with each food purchase!

Who can resist a home-made sausage roll with melt-in-the-mouth pastry and caramelised onions, a fresh breakfast roll or delicious salad box made to order with your favourite ingredients?

James has been based in Ipswich for 32 years and has great plans for the best café in the area. He starts baking at 7am every day to deliver fresh goodies for everyone to enjoy.

With his food background as commercial director of a blue chip company, he knows what people like and is enjoying his new business as ‘there’s no commuting, planes, trains or hotels and I’m 15 minutes away!’

During lockdown, James has been busy redecorating, fitting new equipment and lighting. He plans to maintain the high quality food standards that customers expect and to expand the range.  Try a delicious hot chicken goujon wrap with sweet chilli sauce, followed by a slice of moist home-made cake packed with fruit, baked by James’ wife Liz.  The range of burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps and cakes is mouth-watering.

Hopefully, from 17 May, you can eat inside at Kings. Upstairs has welcoming leather sofas and tables for eating in or catered business buffet lunches booked in advance.

Insurers drag heels on business interruption claims

By Angela Prichard,

Do you have an outstanding insurance claim for business interruption since the first lockdown?  Delays or refusal to pay seems to be an epidemic among insurers, despite the Financial Conduct Authority taking the unusual step of starting legal proceedings with 370,000 business claims against a number of insurers.  Some claims have been paid, either partally or in full, but only after the Supreme Court issued a judgment against the insurers on 15 January.

Many claims are from small and medium-sized businesses like those on the Masterlord Office Village, who were confident that their business interruption policy would cover them when the pandemic hit and they had to close their doors.  But a year later, most of them are still waiting for their money. Many insurance policies didn’t exclude events like pandemics from their cover, and others explicitly covered any losses as a result of someone “falling ill with a disease notified to the authorities within 25 miles of their business”.  The pandemic is covered, the Supreme Court decided, but the insurers – including big guns like Hiscox – don’t agree.  They have even accepted claims but set the value at £0.

More legal cases are pending to challenge the insurers, including Hiscox and Amlin, who are dragging their heels on settling claims.  FCA data shows that, so far, 10,000 policyholders have received some money, with insurers paying out more than £470m.  But more than 50,000 are still waiting.   There’s even a Hiscox Action Group to pressure the company to pay out..

Businesses pay insurance premiums in the expectation that, when they have to make a claim, it will be paid.  Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case with the pandemic.

Office pranks?

By Angela Prichard,

With Spring finally here and positive signs for the future after lockdown, it was a pleasure to see some fun and humour take place here in Epsilon House.

One office decided to play a little prank on one of their team members. Having decided a larger office was needed they picked one and moved over a weekend while their colleague was off.

On the day of their return the team set up a camera to record the reaction of said colleague walking into an empty office, stripped of its furniture!

The reaction was priceless, a look of shock, of visible surprise, short lived thought as they soon spotted the camera and started to laugh – must know their team well!

I suppose we now have to wait and see if this is the start of an office prank war…

Have you played any office pranks? Let us know at feedback@masterlord.co.uk

FC Logistics

By Angela Prichard,

Logistics company keeps frozen food moving to our stores…

The initial panic over empty shelves and freezers in supermarkets seems to have died down, but complicated new customs regulations have placed additional pressure on the supply chain from Europe. One company, customs clearance agents FC Logistics, is part of the solution, making sure that containers full of frozen food reach the UK supermarket distribution network on time.

“After working from home for some years, I decided to take an office at Masterlord Office Village. Epsilon House is a great location for us as we expand. They’re friendly people, nothing was too much trouble when we were ready to move in, it took less than a week. Compared to other serviced offices, it’s keenly priced and having high-speed broadband and phones ready to go was perfect, they even loaned us furniture until our own arrived”

David Hurrell – FC Logistics

FC Logistics handles customs clearance for hundreds of containers from Europe every week, about 70% food and 30% other goods. The frozen food is time-sensitive for major brands including Asda, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer and Tesco. Keeping food supplies moving after Brexit has become a vital role.
