New ABC Wonderland nursery opens!

By Angela Prichard,

We’re delighted to welcome our latest addition to the Masterlord community with the opening of ABC Wonderland, offering exceptional child care and nursery facilities with an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating. Under latest Government guidelines, nurseries may remain open.

A world of wonder awaits little ones aged up to 5 in the entrancing nursery, with individual  areas for different ages (1-2, 3-5), shared spaces both inside and, in summer, outside. There’s always freshly prepared food, eaten together family style, and a range of hands-on activities to stimulate and educate in a relaxed atmosphere.

ABC Wonderland is owned and run by Alex Nunes and her husband Luis  – who doubles as chef  – with qualified early years practitioners to ensure every child has creative fun.

Alex’s 17 years’ experience and qualifications are evident as you step into the stunningly designed space. Much thought and effort has gone into making this a nursery like no other, with an open curiosity approach to everything, reflecting Alex’s passion.

There’s a magical sleep room for babies and different adventures for up to 2-year-olds and 3 to 5-year olds. Every week offers a different theme, with food from different countries in a friendly family atmosphere.

Happy Christmas from the Masterlord Team

By Angela Prichard,

Christmas Jumper

It is looking festive here in Epsilon House, the Christmas tree is up, and mince pies are at reception for those in need of a festive nibble.

It has been a strange four weeks of the second lockdown, and we have done everything we can to support our tenants through; from taking in deliveries to handing out keys, preparing paperwork or scanning letters; always happy to do what we can to assist but even happier to welcome tenants and visitors back to Epsilon House.

Christmas is almost upon us and this year Epsilon House reception will be closing at midday on Christmas eve, reopening on the 4th January as normal, hopefully to welcome in a much better year than 2020.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our tenants, suppliers, and visitors a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Hurren and Hope

By Angela Prichard,

Hurren & Hope are on course to hit a decade of supplying innovative resource services to many within the technology sphere. They are experts in people! Really understanding the need of the organisation, before proposing any solution, has resulted in many long-term relationships.

Their refreshingly different approach, making the people at the centre of organisations the very best they can be, was born from Mark Hurren’s, (Founder & MD) dismay at the traditional recruitment model. The highly skilled team reside in their distinctively furnished penthouse offices in Epsilon House, supporting businesses in building great teams on both a permanent and temporary basis.

Continually innovating, the team has been joined by Paul Hutton, an accomplished intrapreneur with global accolades within technology, health and sustainable markets. There are exciting developments taking place which will support our existing and new partners in the ‘New World’.

“We regularly have candidates who we have supported in their career, become clients…” says Mark Hurren. “Masterlord has allowed us to expand as the business changes and develops, it’s a perfect base and most importantly a fantastic community.”

By Angela Prichard,

With the UK’s largest container port at Felixstowe less than 10 miles from Masterlord Office Village, Tony Blackman’s Port Side Solutions provides logistics solutions to the haulage industry locally and nationally.

General manager Miles Powell explains: “We’re right on the A14 here, so being part of this business community is ideal, with all the support that Epsilon House offers.”

Celebrating success at Masterlord Office Village

By Angela Prichard,

Celebrating success at Masterlord Office Village

We’re celebrating a double success with two tenants at Masterlord.  Angie Harris was named last week as one of the UK’s top 50 cake designers for her stunning creations, and Tom Rees of the highly creative Wiro Agency has been shortlisted in the Suffolk Business Awards.

Angie Harris creates unique cakes for events and corporate clients, winning multiple awards. She pushes the boundaries of design with cakes containing moving elements or with digital ‘mapped’ projection by husband Stuart animating a cake’s surface. One of their projection cakes has nearly 100,000 views on YouTube and millions of TV views worldwide, including the Discovery Channel.

Among her amazing creations are a two metre high projection cake with an edible 1.2m character and a fully-working remote-control car cake for a Ford ad.

Angie hopes to re-open her cake school at Masterlord in September: “If a cake isn’t a challenge, it’s not really for me!  Mixing mechanical parts with cake always proves a head scratcher to make sure it’s all food safe and survives the journey to the venue!”

The prestigious Suffolk Business Awards, run by the East Anglian Daily Times, has shortlisted Tom Rees from the Wiro Agency for the Young Business Person Award. An annual event, the awards recognise entrepreneurs who have made a significant contribution to the success of a company.

His full-service creative agency offers graphic design, logo creation, website development, design and hosting, together with print.

“We work across a broad range of businesses, offering an integrated service,” said Tom Rees. “It’s exciting to have our work recognised by a major regional business award.”

Popping out to the shops or bank? Pick up a Masterbike at reception!

By Angela Prichard,

Popping out to the shops or bank? Pick up a Masterbike at reception!

Keep fit with eco bicycles at Masterlord

On yer bike: cycling is in the news!  We’re giving everyone a head start by offering tenants FREE short-term use of our fabulous new Masterlord bicycles to get everyone fit on our eco-friendly transport.

Popup cycle lanes are appearing in Ipswich, there are Government incentives to get on two wheels, so what better time to get biking – on us!  Our four stylish new blue Masterbikes are rebuilt Royal Mail postal bikes – all originally hand-made in the UK and now getting a new lease of life.

“Each bike’s professionally restored and there’s another bonus to this scheme,” explains Masterlord’s Alison Smith.  “For each one we buy, another is rebuilt by Cycle of Good and sent to Malawi for local people to use. It’s a fantastic scheme they call Elephant Bike.”

Riding a piece of English heritage around Ipswich is the only way to travel, with the distinctive basket upfront for anything you need to carry!

“Racing bikes and fold-up bikes are great, but on these postie bikes you can enjoy riding a true British classic, it’s got style!” adds Katie from the front desk: she’s already road-tested it.

Alison Smith thinks everyone should get on two wheels: “If you’re heading to the shops, the café or even into town, it’s eco-friendly, you don’t have to pay to park and you’re supporting local retailers!  As the bikes were originally built for Royal Mail, they’re virtually indestructible and have been reconditioned from the handlebars to the wheels. All you have to do is collect one from reception.

“Everyone’s talking about keeping fit in our new socially distanced world. With our Masterbikes you can keep fit, help the environment and give a gift to less fortunate people in Africa.”

Check at Reception about availability as currently it’s first-come, first served.  A new cycle rack will appear soon and we’re hoping to offer weekend use in the future.

Now’s the time to get on yer bike: try one today!

Katies Return

By Angela Prichard,

I will admit myself a little relieved that I was able to continue working through lockdown. Happy even to have a reason to stick to a routine and escape the house. That was until I had a small ridiculous slip on seaweed, my balance went, my ankle rolled one way, my weight went another and an audible snap was heard. It hurt! Waves of nausea and light-headedness flowed through me.

The swelling was immediate, my ankle the size of a small grapefruit and we are on a beach, miles from the car park and not easily accessible! We managed to get to a bench which was close by, with me propped between my partner and son, but it became apparent from the pain that I would not be able to go any further.

My ankle now looked like a baking potato was stuck to the side of it and the possibility of a break was on our minds.

Unsure what to do my partner called his friend David Coyle, who not only happens to be a tenant of Epsilon House but is also a member of Suffolk Search and Rescue. He says he will come and see if he can help. As I was growing increasingly faint my partner also called an ambulance. Speaking to the dispatcher it became clear getting me off the beach may not be straightforward!

David arrived a short time later and with him another member of Suffolk Search and Rescue. Finding an open gate, he was able to drive through the nature reserve and down to the beach. He strapped my leg (his work drawing compliments from the surgeon when I reached the hospital) and between them and my partner lifted me to the car and drove me out, meeting the ambulance at the car park. Turned out the paramedics would not have been able to get me off the beach and we could have faced a long wait for a specialist team!

I made it to the hospital and after a very short wait in A&E it was confirmed that there were two broken bones. Surgery and hospital stays are never pleasant, so I will not bore you with those details!

After several weeks of being stuck at home it was a joy to return to work, to have some routine and sense of normality back. Yet it was also like starting a new job. Although much is the same, a lot of changes have occurred in response to the pandemic.

It felt strange to sit behind a clear perspex screen, and to see all the signs telling people to stay two metres apart. The biggest change is the infra- red camera, that has certainly taken a little getting used to! Remembering to tell people to stand on the red spot: it feels rude to be looking the other way!

I can certainly relate to people who, during the first three months of the pandemic, have not been able to work in the office and are now returning.  I’m right there with you – but for a different reason!  Working from home is a new experience for many, but it’s great to be back behind the desk at Epsilon House.  Good to see so many of you: welcome home!
